Second Half Dooms Knights

Posted Monday, September 25, 2006 by Scranton Times Staff

Zach Freiderich scored all three touchdowns for the Cavaliers, his 1-yarder in the third quarter giving the hosts the lead for good.

He added a 26-yard run for an insurance score in the fourth quarter, and the Cavaliers sewed up the game when quarterback Dan Scherele was called for intentional grounding in his own end zone late.

Freidrich and Anthony Davis each rushed for more than 100 yards, and Freidrich gave East Stroudsburg South the early lead with a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

The Knights bounced back when Scherele hit Mike Weeks with a 19-yard scoring strike, but the missed extra point left Scranton behind, 7-6.

Kawon Shell gave Scranton its only lead when he bulled into the end zone from a yard out for a 12-7 halftime edge. Shell finished with 102 rushing yards on 30 carries.

Scherle threw for 133 yards, most of it coming to Weeks, who had three grabs for 51 yards.
